Matt, The white ink holds up great, and the new bright white is very impressive. I have done prints that were one or two color with white, or just white lettering on black shirts (I can't see where I can upload pictures for you to see here, but look at my clients pages for small examples). There is some trial and error, depending on the design and/or shirt color to find the right amount of pretreament/ink/underbase for your prints, but it is well worth it. We have been running successfully with the now outdated T-Jet 3, and even with all it's quirks have been able to get the results needed for our clients.
