Just to make sure everyone understands the facts before bashing Vastex on the service side.

First Fact: A press thats built for all heads down must be very finely setup and adjusted. This is a laborious task to say the least. It requires specially dedicated tools to "jig" the press print heads. While the task might be able to be performed in the field, I am sure that Vastex is suggesting that the press be sent back for one of several reasons.

1) The costs will be less than having a tech fly in and perform the task.

2) Assuming the press was correctly setup before it left, Vastex may be assuming that there may be damage to the press from shipping? And therefore would want the press back to check ALL settings and the press entirely for any other issues.

So, in short I dont think people should be bashing them before having some facts to consider as to why they requested the press be sent back for service. After all this is a manual press and is easy to ship. Obviously the loss of your press while its getting serviced is not an option during the busy season but you could schedule a time period in advance with Vastex to make the problem a little easier to deal with.

Did you ask about a tech coming to your shop? What other options were placed on the table?

The only reason I am making this post is that Vastex has a very good history of supporting its customers and if this was only option they offered, than there must be a reason why that people should understand.

Note: Even if this was, as another person stated an M&R under warranty you would still be paying for travel expenses for a tech to make the repair at your shop. A bill that may exceed the costs to ship it back?
