I know this is a 3-month old thread, now. But - you might want to check your local fire-code for their requirements.

I have a buddy that has a textile finishing company. Small warehouse / office. But power is only on one wall of the warehouse, so they have to run a long extension cord to some of the equipment.

Whenever it's time for the periodic fire-marshal inspections for the space, they have to unplug the extension cord, and shut down production until the inspections are over. It would be better for them to spend a few bucks to have a certified electrician run conduit around the corner to where they need it, and avoid the inspection headache.. but that's his business, not mine...
