The areas I'd be concerned with are the areas that have gotten me in the past.

1. Pallet Adhesive. If you use spray adhesive, that stuff just plain stinks, and long-term makes a big mess for lint/dust cleanup. I'd be willing to bet that it's not good to inhale the fumes. Opt if you can for a roll-on water-based pallet adhesive.

2. This I have listed second.. but should probably be listed first - because of the effects. Realistically, though, I don't use it often enough to rank #1 on my list though. Blowout fluid. This stuff, when working in an area that is NOT PROPERLY VENTILATED will have her (or anyone) seeing cross-eyed in a short time.

You also mentioned inks & solvents. I think your procedures you mentioned already would cover that. Apron, maybe rubber/latex/etc. gloves when cleaning press and transferring ink from the ink containers to the screens, and then carding it off again before screen reclaiming.

I say teach her a trade. At 15 and preggers, she's going to need some kind of support and training, and some mature guidance to help her make some right decisions in life. It may not be your job to offer that - but you, as a teacher in a system that has 15-year old pregnant kids and certainly understand the mentoring that can help keep a kid on a good track when things are stacked against her.

If she pursues printing, she may be able to start out at a local shop - it can get her in the door.. then maybe she could move to sales or the art departments to reduce exposure to the chemicals.. But I realistically don't think that with realistic precautions, that she's any more at risk than any of your other students are.

Just my 2 cents...
G'Luck to both you and her!
