My "children" have helped in some capacity in our business since they were toddlers. They are now 16 and 21. They never ingested chemicals or burned themselves, but they never did at home either. Maybe we just got lucky, but we set ground rules and followed through and didn't have to worry. While they were younger, we did put dangerous things up, common sense prevails. We use ICC chemicals which are non-flammable, non-toxic and biodegradable. They are a little pricey, but worth it. Both of my kids purchased their first cars working at our shop. I think it makes them more responsible if it is handled correctly. By the way, our customers love seeing our kids working with us.
