  Convert outline to object then give it a stroke and set it to behind fill.

Select the outlined object, hit the + key on the number pad this will create a dup directly ontop, either through the object manager select the behind one and increase its outline accordingly and color, or with the top dup selected immediately hit the tab key this will go to the previous dup(the one underneath) and change the outline accordingly.

There is a macro somwhere available that converts all outlines to objects and deletes the left over centerline, I do not like using it because if there is a lot of complicated objects it can freeze you up. I just try to keep converting my outlines as I go.
