  Anything under 80% = head clogging. Pet stores sell humidity strips meant for lizard cages. Stick one on your printer to monitor humidity. Sometimes a few wet T's placed around a printer is all you need to bring it up. Other times a humidifier may be in order.

The bowl of water and sponge sounds like a good idea.
