Believe it or not I agree with all that you stated. Many of the poor are indeed lazy. The poverty level for a single individual is something like $10,000. It is mathmatically imposible to be under the poverty level if you work a full time job, even at MINIMUM WAGE. The average working american works something like 43 hours a week. If you subtract out the poor, and part-time students and stay at home moms/dads, and older folk who work part-time just to occupy their time, the average serious full time worker in the US must work closer to 50 hours per week. Thus, the poor are poor bacause THEY DONT WORK ANYWHERE NEAR THE AVERAGE HOURS PER WEEK as the average US worker. That is by their choice. They choose to be poor. They probably don't like being poor, but they prefer being poor to having to work the 40+ hours to get out of poverty. But just to answer a question you once asked me, (what I had against the rich): Actually the fact that 2.8% of us don't have to work because they were born into so much wealth is exactly one of the issues that I have with the EXTREMLY wealthy. If the bottom 12 percent of us (or whatever it is that puts one below the poverty level) worked 40 hours a week, and if those 2.8% extremely wealthy all worked, we could ALL have 14.8% more wealth. Thats 14.8% more health care, 14.8% better cars, 14.8% better education (thats represents nearly 2 years of additional COLLEGE), 14.8% better housing, etc. | |
