Polyester does not absorb any significant amount of water and that would not make it break on the press. You spray it with water in processing. Take a screen and soak it and it will not break.

Heat will make the screen LOSE tension. Take a scrap screen - old - and run it through a press dryer. 300+ degrees F. The screen will lose tension.
