Long time Ulano QTX user with plastisol trying out Polycol One-Coat to see if it will be a good choice for my new discharge printing. I am new to using Kiwo products and am having trouble exposing this product. I added the Diazo D as recommended since I am planning to use this with discharge inks. Filled the little bottle half full with luke warm water, shake to mix, add to gallon of emulsion, add another half of water to little bottle, shake and add to emulsion. Stir slowly until mixed, allow to settle for 2 hours. My test screen is 156 yellow mesh. Screen is coated 1+1 print then squeege side using round edge of my coater. Screen is allowed to dry to 24 hours at 35% humidity at 65 degrees and looks visibly dry after only about an hour so I am getting good moisture removal. Exposure unit is a WorkHorse Point 1K with good vacuum. I initially tried my step test at 30 second intervals from 2-6 minutes. At my washout booth I use cold water with just full tap pressure with a gun type spray nozzzle with a light spray on the squeegee side and then working the exposure from the print side and got no apparent washout. I then tried 15 second intervals starting at 30 seconds and got no apparent washout. I then tried 5 second intervals starting at 5 seconds and got easy washout at the 5 second mark spotty washout at 10 second mark but with bad edge definition and the more I worked it the more the edges and eventually the entire screen coat which had 30 second exposure just peeled away from the water pressure. It feels like I need to expose longer to get true exposure but then can't achieve washout with just tap and spray nozzle. I notice in the other threads here that you recommend using a power washer for washout. I have one, it's about 1000psi. Is the power washer the answer here? If so what ballpark exposure time would you recommend I shoot for with my setup? Will this product work with the Halogen light source of my Point 1K or does it require the higher UV of a Metal Halide unit? With ulano products as soon as the product gets wet you can see what was exposed and what wasn't. I wasn't noticing that with the Polycol One-Coat except for the zero exposure control areas and the 5-10 second time areas. Does this mean that when I try to washout with the powerwash that I won't be able to see what I am trying to washout? Thanks! ![]() [Edited on 1/29/08 by Light_Speed] ____________________ Riley Hopkins 8/4 WorkHorse Point 1K Exposure Unit WorkHorse Primus 18x20 Flash WorkHorse Compact Conveyer Dryer Dual 500 Mac G4, 1.5GB RAM, OS X 10.3.9, 1TB storage | |
