I assume you have used this screen before which means there may still be stains of emulsion or ink on the the mesh.

The mesh surface tension will be different and liquid emulsion will take a different shape, making the surface look mottled.

It is my impression that water based ink stains 'seem' to effect the coating more than plastisol stains, but printing on textiles usually doesn't disturb the printed image. This is not the case with non-absorbent substrates where old images can be a disaster - sometimes only showing up when the ink is dry!

I recommend a strong vinyl ink wash like CCI WB-1, Lawson PW-305 or Ulano All Purpose Ink Wash right after regular ink removal as an antiseptic.
