The main problem that is encountered with the Newman locking strips is that the screen maker generally tapes the frame incorrectly. If you tape all the way over both sides of the slot....you did it wrong.

What this causes is the sediments from ink, chemicals, emulsion and blockout will not be rinsed away when you reclaim. This sediment builds up underneath the tension side (side toward the print area) of the locking strip effectively preventing it from "unclamping" the mesh(the inner/lead locking strip edge actually lifts at an angle to clamp the mesh against the inner T-slot edge when you apply tension).
You need only tape the inside or leading edge of the T-slot. There is no tension on the outer edge of the slot so no reason to protect that area.
Since this sediment is almost always a MIXTURE of ink AND emulsion.....the best way I have found to get this loose is to take a small cup and mix 50/50 emulsion remover full strength with a relatively hot ink degradent and spray it onto the strip area. Let it soak then run your corner softening squeegee tool full length of the strip on both sides to crack things loose. You can generally now pull out the last of the loose mesh clamped underneath with a pliers. The strip almost always slides out at this point.
