We've been a manual shop for 24 years. Obviously, all shops have certain ways of doing things and once the systems get set and work well, it usually stays. That being said, we've been using a white screen tape from AWT. It's like Duct Tape on steroids. It's water and solvent resistant and it holds forever. We tape the ink side and shirt side of the screen where the mesh meets the frame. We mainly use 20x24 fixed aluminum & Hix Reten frames. Normally we only need to re-do the tape every five years or so. Any single screen will normally be reclaimed around 150 times a year. The tape is good stuff. Downside is, once we do re-do the tape it's a bit of a fight to remove all the adhesive residue. I'm getting my first auto in a few weeks... along with it, some used Newman M3 23x31 frames. As I'm still very ignorant concerning autos, Newmans and the specific systems related to them, I have no idea how much re-stretching I'm going to be doing. If it's going to be a weekly, or even monthly occurance, I'm probably going to be looking for a new tape. Questions: What are some good, strong tapes out there which hold well, but will leave less residue for clean-up in the re-stretching process? How do most of you out there tape your screens used on an auto? Both sides? One side only? With Newmans, do you normally tape the strip groove? Again, any additional info is very appreciated! | ||
