I'm sorry, but I definately see a difference in a person wanting to make some extra cash, a part times sales person, and a full time sales person. The question to ask is this: Is he truly selling the product or is he getting leads? The next question is, Can he make a quote on the spot or is he going to get the information and then call you for the quote? And finally, How will customers call him? Is he going to have a dedicated phone line? Will his voice mail represent your company? Will he have his own business cards with his dedicated telephone number? Can he answer sales calls at his "day" job? Oh wait, I forgot - does he even have sales experience? I had sales experience before I went into this industry (Car dealership & Computer superstore). But its a lot easier to make a sale to a person who came to the business to look at the product then to make cold calls and generate leads. Royce, you said that if you don't pay him enough commision - he'll move on to where the grass is greener and that he'll have to sell a million dollars worth of product to make a decent living. What expenses is he going to have? Is he going to make you loose a potential customer if he makes a bad quote? or the infamous - oh yea we can print "____" on "____" no problem! In my honest opinion, I think that there is a lot of difference between the two. Because I'm not paying a person the same amount to get me a lead as someone who closes a sale and gets me payment. And my friend needs to prove himself or herself as a sales person before I negotiate a higher commission. Zak, I'd give him 15% if he's bringing in $1500 a month - not $1500 a year. ____________________ -- John | |
