The 2 parallel micros move the clamp front to back, and rotate. The single micro in the middle moves the clamp left and right. Unfortunately, when you turn one micro, the thread play and movement in the turnbuckle ends where the o-rings are allow movement in directions other than the one you're trying to achieve. The problem with the micros is there is too much slop in the threads, and the ends of the turnbuckles that are mounted in the standoffs have o-rings that allow too much flex, and make tightening the standoffs down snug to the casting on which they are mounted impossible.![]() Before I sold my press, I was going to redo one color head, taking the heim joint turnbuckles used on the screen tilt mechanisms from three other heads, and load the threads with springs and flat washers as a bearing surface for the springs to butt up against. ![]() I picked up a used Vastex and sold my CAPS before I actually tried this, but I think that it would eliminate most if not all of the slop induced by the cheaper turnbuckles used for the three micros. I checked with McMaster-Carr and figured it would've cost me about $150 to retrofit all 6 heads with hiem-joints, threaded sleeves and springs. That's why I was going to do just one using some stiff springs I bought at a salvage place, and the heim joints off 3 other print heads . . . to make sure it worked satisfactorily before spending good money after bad. I've posted this on another forum, and I sent this diagram to someone who had contacted me about another matter. I don't know that anyone has tried it, but if you aren't in a position to upgrade to a better press, I think it would be worth a shot. Truthfully, a lot of people slam CAPS presses, but, except for the micros, I thought mine was pretty well made, especially for what I paid for it new. If they'd fix the micros, they'd have a good entry level press. | |
