Well part of the problem is the line of ink your using. Mix-Opake is a mixing color system and while it can be used without modification its not designed to be like that.

The other problem is that many dealers of the MIX-OPAKE do not sell large volumes of this line and the ink you may have recieved could have been on the shelf for a looong time and the ink will "body" up to the hard consistancy you mention.
