Global peace is a really nice idealistic thought.

From the beginning of time man has been a warrior. Fighting for food, living space, a mate and just to survive.

Some individuals resort to violence because they want what someone else has but dont want to earn it. Its the haves vs. the have-nots.

Then there are others that resort to violence just because someone else doesnt believe in the same God or exhaulted being. I dont have to quote sources to argue this fact. The effects have been seen over and over starting with 9/11 (actually way before).

The people that attacked on 9/11 did so for Allah and to attack the infidels (us), not for oil. Trying to use oil as the reason behind the attack is pure bunk.

Pay particular attention to MOTIVE with Bin Ladens directive to - Kill Americans Anywhere

Terrorism is terrorism and those individuals know no geographic boundaries such as existed in every previously fought war. They are found all around the globe and probably exist in sleeper cells onshore right now.

The United States could lay down all military arms, give away every last ounce of gold in the treasury, send all the corn and wheat produced here to be distributed around the world and there would still be those that would not blink an eye to set off an onshore Nuke given half a chance. Why? Because they just dont like us. That and our freedom to practice a religion of choice or no religion at all.

Too many around the globe hate us for just being us and are only held (somewhat) at bay through force and the ability to exert force.

So as to not be misunderstood, like most everyone else, I dont like war or the effects of armed conflict, but if the US was not able to defend our sovreign borders and citizenry, you can be assured that people like the ones that attacked on 9/11 would certainly come knoocking again if they knew there would be no retaliation or penalty. They are just waiting for an opportunity.

I will be the first to go along with your sentiments as soon as the rest of the world becomes peaceful FIRST.

If we as a country allow ourselves to become weak, you can bet there are those who would take advantage of the opportunity immediately. John Lennon was wrong. Give peace a chance will never work because it is not in mans nature to be noncombative. Not without fear of paying a penalty.

Even with futuristic presentations like Star Trek, universal peace was (pretty much) practiced, but only with the ability to exert force as the glue to make everyone peaceful.

Its a shame when these boards turn into soapboxes for personal political or religous views, but I get so tired of reading rhetoric espousing things that just will not work (being realistic) and had to toss out my 2 cents.

Sorry, but thats the way I feel and my son has been to Iraq for three tours with the Marines and looks like another may yet occur.
