I had hoped that someone who had used a Hix unit would post, but it looks like you're out of luck there.

The Hix unit should work (in theory) to expose your plate material. The times are going to be trial and error though. Cut some strips of plate material for tests so you're not using a whole plate for each time test.

You could do a search here for 'exposure time' and you should find some starting points.
