I started my company on a primex manual! It made me enough to buy my first auto...good little presses.

I still suspect your film positive is to light. I see in your new post that you use toner. I agree with Bill that these typcially are not dense enough to make a quality plate, especially for any bold images. Do you have access to a film house that could make you a nice dense positive? That would at least eliminate that part of the equation.
