Hi Laura, welcome to pad printing. It sounds like you have the basic setup correct. I would guess your 100 sec plate should be the one to try. I use 90 sec on my first exposure and 110 on my tint exposure. How are you making your film positive? If the image is not dense (black) enough, you may be overexposing the plate during your first exopsure. This does not give the image enough depth to hold ink. Your ink mix sounds correct as well. I use 10% thinner as a starting point, and it usually works just fine. Does your image show up light on the pad or just on the final print? Getting the ink film to fully transfer from the pad to your product is an art of timing. I used to wait about 1/2 - 1 second after inking my pad before I actually lowered it to my products. This is completely dependant on temperature and humidity in your shop. I still think your film positive may be to blame. Tell us what press and ink you are using and maybe we can come up with some more ideas. Good Luck! Dan | |
