Hi Dan, Rush charges are a funny thing. I never used to like charging Rush Charges because it felt like I was sticking it to the customer. Then I noticed a pattern with the same few customers always taking advantage of my good nature...They would always wait to very last minute and then would kind of ask/kind of tell me, that I needed to get their order done in two days. (By the way, these customers always have huge next day air bill because they wait to the last minute for everything) I started charging rush charges to deter these customers. It wasn't a money thing; it was about getting more time to do jobs and being able to better schedule work. It did help, but it was amazing how much money these fools wasted on rush charges per year. My feeling is that if a customer makes me jump through hoops because they run their business inefficiently then they should pay for that service. A percentage usually will work well but on small orders (which most rush jobs seem to be) you don't always make out well and it is not a large enough deterrent to change the lazy customers' behavior. I use the $100 fee for order less than 500 units and $250 for orders 500 units or more. Remember, depending on the customer and the job, you can always reduce the charge and really look like your working with the customer. Good luck, Ed | ||
