I started a t-shirt line recently and have been creating simple one/two color designs. I took a semester of screen printing 2 years ago, but I only learned the basics and although it was fun, it was tough. So I started to outsource my work and let the professionals handle it. I have a few graphic t-shirts I bought that are very detailed and realistic. This one BILLABONG shirt I owned had a watercolor effect, pencil sketching and charcoal-like smudges. Another shirt I owned had Lil' Kim's face that pretty much looked like a photograph (don't ask about Lil' Kim hahaha, it was for a good cause...seriously). (Images/links of these shirts are placed below) Anyway, my questions are: For the BILLABONG shirt: is it possible to create a print with this design using the 4-color process? Or, is there a better technique/process to print this type of design? For the Lil' KIM shirt: if I wanted a shirt printed with a photographic person on it, is it possible for most screen printers to do this? Or is this particular technique/process done by specialized printers/equipment? Would I also need to setup these files a certain type of way before sending them off? Or is this usually done by the screen printer? I ran across this article online that explains how to do color separations using Photoshop. I just want to do everything I can to help the screen printer I decide to use. Click Here for the article. I am using these images, solely as examples. In no way am I trying to replicate/copy these designs, I just want to know what, or if there are any, limitations to what I can design when it comes to screen printing. ![]() http://designstat.us/forum_images/forum_billabong.jpg ![]() http://designstat.us/forum_images/forum_lilkim.jpg [Edited on 4/13/08 by dapnoyqpid] | ||
