If for no other reason (such as the actual chemistry problems) most DTG users are not set up to send their garments down a reasonably large sized forced air dryer (preferably gas), as discharge inks require. The DTG system is often marketed to new users as needing minimal curing equipment i.e., a heat press.

Also, a discharged substrate would not eliminate the need for a highlight white ink, merely, it would provide a lighter color background on which to lay down colors.
