Andy, you're exactly correct about this whole issue.

If you remember back when I started posting about my success with the 9680, people (slowly) started buying the new 9800.
I soon realized that the settings that I use with my 9860 are not necessarily compatible with the new 9800's.
So even though, this 1200, 9680, 9800 evolution is the same species, it's not really the same animal.

The printer drivers have changed.
For the life of me, I can't remember for Joe, what settings I used 8 years ago on the 1200. I tried, but I can't.
I offered him the settings that I use for the 9680...........but, just as your 9800 settings don't work for my 9680, my 9680 settings don't seem to be working for his 1200.

I do know that I successfully used my 1200, just as I'm successfully using the 9680.

Seems to me, as with most things, life was a bit simpler back then. I don't think that I did much but select "Transparency", upped my ink volume a bit and away I printed.
Who knows?
I certainly can't remember.

He has spent a whole ton of time and effort.
The last pictures that he sent me were awful, totally unacceptable.
I feel so badly for him.

While I fully understand why he doesn't want to have to spend $$$, if he doesn't have to, he'e beating himself to the ground trying to get this resolved.

None of my business, but for the heck of it, I would just jog over to Staples and buy a 9800.
He's spent far more than that already in all the time expended.
Heck, he can even return the printer, if he wants.

For curiosity sake, alone, I'd give it a whirl.

Just like that PS compatible stuff is far beyond my comprehension, maybe this falls into the same category.
I don't understand why there should be an issue, but the driver that I was using fo the 1200 was for Windows 98.
I know they have an XP updaate, but, again, who knows?
Not me.

Something changed. It worked for me. It doesn't work for him.......
We are just fortunate with some of these printers to do as well as we do
